How RateMyPaddle tests paddles

Manufacturer specs are a starting point. Here is how we keep the numbers on a paddle page honest.

Why specs vary

Two paddles of the same model can differ. Static weight commonly varies by a few tenths of an ounce, and thermoforming can shift swing weight and balance unit to unit. A spec sheet is a target, not a guarantee.

What we measure

Where we can, we record static weight, swing weight, twist weight, balance point, and grip circumference per physical unit — not just the manufacturer claim. Community performance tests add real spin and pace numbers.

How we measure it

Measurements follow a documented protocol so numbers are comparable across paddles: a consistent scale, swing-weight method, and balance procedure. Each value is stored with the protocol version that produced it.

What needs-review means

Scraped specs carry a confidence score. Low-confidence fields are flagged for human review before they are trusted, so the catalog favors accuracy over completeness.
