Paddle anatomy
Every spec on a paddle page maps to one of these parts. Here is what each one does to how the paddle plays.
Core
The honeycomb or foam layer inside the paddle. Thicker cores (16mm) tend to play softer and more controlled; thinner cores (13β14mm) feel poppier and more powerful but less forgiving.
Face
The hitting surface β usually graphite, fiberglass, or carbon fiber. Carbon faces add spin and durability; fiberglass adds power and a livelier response.
Shape
Standard shapes are balanced and forgiving. Elongated shapes add reach and power at the cost of a smaller sweet spot. Widebody shapes maximize the sweet spot for beginners.
Weight and swing weight
Static weight is what the paddle reads on a scale. Swing weight is how heavy it feels in motion β a better predictor of fatigue and maneuverability than static weight alone.
Balance and twist weight
Balance point shifts power toward the head (more drive) or handle (more control). Twist weight measures stability on off-center hits β higher is more forgiving.
Grip
Grip circumference affects wrist action and comfort. A smaller grip allows more spin and wrist snap; a larger grip adds stability and reduces strain.
